Pack OrganizationWhat's a Cub Scout Pack?So what exactly is a Cub Scout pack? A pack is an organization of boys, adult leaders, and parents. Within the pack, boys belong to smaller groups called "dens." These dens are based on the boys age. Each den is made up of Tiger, Wolf, Bear, or Webelos Scouts. More information about age and den assignment can be found on the About Pack 546 page. The den is the core group that a Cub Scout will participate in. The den will hold meetings several times a month which consist of fun activities, many of which will help the Scout work towards earning advancement awards. It provides opportunities for activities that would be difficult with a large group. Once a month, all dens meet together in an event called the "pack meeting." So, is that it? Well, almost. The pack operates under the guidance of another group known as the "chartering organization". The chartering organization is often a church or a community group such as the Elks, Rotary Club, or Masons (to name only a few). It is granted a charter by the Boy Scouts of America to use the Scouting program. The chartering organization is responsible for providing a suitable meeting place and verifies that there is adequate adult leadership and supervision. And lastly, there is the pack committee. The pack committee is made up of adults who volunteer their time to make the pack "happen." These are the behind-the-scenes folks who plan events, handle finances, manage the advancement program, obtain awards, and do all the other duties required to make the pack run. Here is what the pack organization looks like:

Do You Need My Help?Absolutely! We can always use more adult volunteers. All positions are available to both men and women. Here are some potential opportunities depending on the amount of time you can give: I Can Only Help Once in AwhileIf you only have a little time, we are always looking for assistance with pack meetings and other pack events. Every adult in the pack can help with these.
I Want to Work With the Boys RegularlyDo you have a little more (OK, a lot more) time and want to work with the boys directly? If so, you might consider becoming a Den Leader or an Assistant Den Leader. These positions require a significant time commitment but are immensely rewarding if you want to help lead our young men. You will need to register as an adult leader and attend about 8 hours of training.
Do you want to help lead the boys but don't have the time for near-weekly meetings? Then consider becoming an Assistant Cubmaster. You will help run pack meetings and pack events, but it will generally only require about two meetings a month (the pack and leader meetings). You will need to register as an adult leader and attend about 8 hours of training.
I Have Time, But Need FlexibilityDo you have time available but need more flexibility with your schedule or prefer to work behind the scenes? Then consider a position with the Pack Committee. As a member of the Pack Committee, you will be expected to attend one meeting per month in addition to the pack meeting. Most of the your other responsibilities can be managed based on your own schedule. We can be flexible! We need help with everything from planning camping trips, to registration, to fund raising. We can really use your help in any of the committee positions listed as "open" in the current pack leadership. You will need to register as an adult leader. Training is optional, but available and encouraged.
